What are you afraid of right now?

All you fear

In his new work, Peter Swanson tries to play with people's primal fears. Symbolically, he puts young Kate at our side, who has been suffering from severe panic attacks since a terrible incident a few years ago. With a change of scenery, she tries to avoid her fears and maybe make a new beginning. Unfortunately, it turns out to be bad, because her new home in Boston seems to be more dangerous than at first glance. Soon there will be real reasons for her fears and she will have to fear for her life.

Opinion:
The book leaves me very ambivalent after reading it. There are many good factors that a successful thriler should have, but just as many negative ones that I couldn't do anything with. The positive aspects definitely include a very exciting basic idea, a successful setting and a fluent writing style. Half of it, I also like an interesting narrative perspective. The reader is given not just one view of things, but several. Often the same scenes are told by all those involved, which on the one hand creates new insights, but on the other hand also creates lengths. You don't find this stylistic device so often, so I rate it as refreshing and positive, but also understand the reader who doesn't like it.

What I didn't like are the characters. Here the author actually managed to write a book in which I just like the cat. The characters are all broken (each in his own way) and most of them are very illogical in their behavior (especially Kate always made me downright angry).
Most of all, the craziest character of all appealed to me because she acted consistently at least to some extent.
I strongly hope that the author will make improvements in his next work. With regard to the other logical connections, there is still a need for tutoring. Some aspects simply cannot be explained meaningfully.

Conclusion:
You can see in the opinion I think the dichotomy about this thriller. Therefore I only give a limited reading recommendation.
