Ishmael's birth

Gen 16.1Sarai, Abram's wife, had given birth to no children. But she had an Egyptian maid named Hagar.Gen 16.2Sarai said to Abram: The Lord has denied me children. Go to my maid! Maybe through them I will get to a son. Abram listened to them.Gen 16.3Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar, the Egyptian maid, ten years after Abram had settled in Canaan, and gave her to her husband, Abram, in marriage.Gen 16.4He went to Hagar and she became pregnant. When she realized that she was pregnant, the mistress lost her respect.Gen 16.5Then Sarai said to Abram: The injustice that I experience come upon you. I left you my maid. As soon as she notices that she is pregnant, I lose my respect for her. The Lord decide between me and you.Gen 16.6Abram replied to Sarai: Here is your maid; it is in your hand. Do what you want with her. Sarai treated her so harshly that Hagar ran away.Gen 16.7The angel of the Lord found Hagar at a spring in the desert, at the spring on the way to Shur.Gen 16.8He said: Hagar, Sarai's maid, where are you from and where are you going? She replied: I ran away from my mistress Sarai.Gen 16.9The angel of the Lord said to her: Go back to your mistress and endure her hard treatment.Gen 16.10The angel of the Lord said to her: I will make your descendants so numerous that they cannot be counted.Gen 16.11The angel of the Lord said to her: You are with child, you will bear a son and call him Ishmael (God hears); for the Lord has listened to you in your suffering.Gen 16.12He will be human like a wild ass. / His hand against everyone, everyone's hands against him! / He sits down in front of all his brothers' faces.Gen 16.13Then she called the Lord who had spoken to her: El-Roï (God who looks after me). Because she said: Have I not been looking after whoever is looking after me?Gen 16.14That is why she called the fountain Beer-Lahai-Roï (fountain of the living who looks after me). It lies between Kadesh and Bered.Gen 16.15Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram named the son whom Hagar bore him, Ishmael.Gen 16.16Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar gave him Ishmael.
